While the album's release date remains unannounced, fans were treated to its lead single, "Houdini", last week. The music video accompanying "Houdini" is nothing short of spectacular, featuring plenty of guest appearances and nostalgic references to classic Slim Shady visuals, including Eminem dressed as a superhero. The video also offered a behind-the-scenes look at Eminem performing his own stunts.
In a recent Instagram post, the rapper shared clips of the music video shoot, with a caption reading, "I do my own stunts. #Houdini video shoot behind the scenes- don't try this at home!!!" As seen in the clips, Eminem can be seen executing various stunts such as jumping off a bed onto crash pads and falling to the ground face first, earning applause and humor-filled comments from his fans. One cheeky comment reads, "Eminem > Tom Cruise."
On Monday, June 10, 2024, Eminem further delighted fans by giving an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of "Houdini". The video captures Marshall Mathers, a.k.a. Rapboy, scaling buildings, performing slow-motion fight choreography, and even slapping his face on the ground. Adding to the humor, Eminem clowns himself at the end by yelling about how his shoe came off.
The release of "Houdini" has been met with massive success. The single debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Eminem's highest-charting song in 11 years. The original music video, which premiered alongside the single on May 31, features Rapboy defending Detroit from an evil Slim Shady who time-traveled from 1999 to 2004. The video features cameos from Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Royce 5'9″, The Alchemist and Boogie, and has amassed over 60 million views on YouTube, making it the platform's biggest debut in 2024.
