AceShowbiz - Amazon found itself in a controversial situation after "This Is Us" actress Mandy Moore publicly criticized the company for leaving a package in front of her in-laws' home, which was left in ruins by the recent California wildfires.
In a social media post, Moore shared a photo of the package placed amidst the burnt debris, with a caption that expressed her disbelief and disapproval. "Do better, Amazon. Can we not have better discretion than to leave a package at a residence that no longer exists? This is my mother and father-in-law's home," she wrote.
The wildfires that ravaged Southern California forced Moore and her immediate family, along with thousands of others, to evacuate. Many structures, including Moore's home and her in-laws' residence, were significantly damaged or destroyed. Fortunately, the main part of Moore's home remained intact, but her family lost their garage and her husband's music studio.
Amazon spokesperson Steve Kelly responded to Moore's criticism, stating that they had reached out to her via Instagram to apologize and ask for more information as they investigate the incident.
"Those who deliver on our behalf have been advised to use discretion in areas impacted by wildfires - especially if it involves delivering to a damaged home - that clearly didn't happen here," Kelly said.
Moore's family experienced a harrowing evacuation as the fires approached. "We never got an evacuation notice," Moore detailed in an Instagram post. She recounted how a call from her brother-in-law prompted her, her husband Taylor Goldsmith, and their children to pack quickly and leave their home amidst falling ash and dark red skies.
Amidst the chaos, Moore shared gratitude for the safety of her family and neighbors, noting that many had lost everything. "Real human beings across this town, regardless of their jobs or socioeconomic status, lost the life they'd come to know and count on in an instant," she wrote. "My whole heart is with them. Every one of them."
The family found refuge with their dear friend, "Lizzie McGuire" actress Hilary Duff, who opened her home to them. Moore's brother-in-law, Griffin Goldsmith, expressed profound gratitude for Duff's generosity during the crisis.
As Moore and her community begin the long process of rebuilding, they face ongoing uncertainty and challenges. However, Moore's heartfelt messages emphasize resilience and solidarity. "This place, our home and the town itself, was our dream and I hope in time it will feel like that again… just a slightly different one," she wrote.
