If a new report is to be believed, the 'Only Murders in the Building' actress finds it 'creepy' that the Canadian singer used her as the inspiration for the controversial HBO series.

AceShowbiz - Fans apparently aren't the only ones who think that "The Idol" features so many 'uncanny similarities' between Selena Gomez and Lily-Rose Depp's character Jocelyn. If a new report is to be believed, the "Only Murders in the Building" actress is "irked" that her ex The Weeknd used her as the inspiration for the controversial series.

A source close to the "Lose You to Love Me" singer tells Daily Mail that the singer/actress is "irked" by the comparisons that can be drawn between her and Jocelyn, who is depicted as a pop star who is going through a lot amid her fame. "The similarities between Selena's life and Jocelyn's life are just uncanny," the source claims.

The insider continues, "Being [that] she actually dated The Weeknd, it is even more creepy for her. Her real-life pain was used for entertainment value and that really irks her out. Everyone in her team who has known her for a very long time is dumbfounded by this, but at the end of the day Selena is going to do what she always does - rise above and move on."

"The Idol" followed pop star Jocelyn, whose life is turned upside down when she meets nightclub owner and cult leader Tedros, played by The Weeknd. The show, which was created by The Weeknd, "Euphoria" showrunner Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim, centered on Jocelyn's very dramatic and painful personal struggles which many think bear eerie similarities to the mental health struggles that Selena went through when she was dating the Canadian star.

Selena suffered mental breakdown in 2016 after being diagnosed with Lupus. She was forced to cancel the remainder of her "Revival" tour to enter a psychiatric facility. On the show, Jocelyn also canceled her tour when she had a mental breakdown following her mom's passing.

Not stopping there, Selena and Jocelyn were both told to keep their hospital bracelet on for their first post-rehab gig. Selena had her hospital bracelet on "Bad Liar" music video, which also had her hands tied in bondage while dressed in lingerie. As for Jocelyn, she dressed in skimpy lingerie while wearing her hospital bracelet during a photo shoot.

Selena and The Weeknd began dating at the start of 2017. Shortly after their split in October 2017, the former Disney darling was seen spending time with on-off ex Justin Bieber, who is now married to Hailey Baldwin.

The disturbing similarities between Selena and Jocelyn aside, "The Idol" faced backlash as some critics dubbed the series as "torture porn" due to its explicit content. After its finale aired on July 2, The Weeknd reflected on his journey with the HBO show in an Instagram post. "The finale. Grateful to share this moment with you all as the season comes to an end. Continue to push the vision no matter how bumpy the journey," so the "Starboy" hitmaker wrote.
