Following the release of the audio, which features the show's former co-host swearing and threatening to quit, Hasselbeck takes to Instagram to respond in an official statement.

AceShowbiz - More details about Elisabeth Hasselbeck's 2006 meltdown on "The View" are here. Ramin Setoodeh writes in his new book "Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of 'The View' " that Hasselbeck tried to quit the NBC talk show in the middle of a commercial break after a fight with co-host Barbara Walters, and now the audio of the latter threatening to exit the show has found its way out online.

According to the book, Hasselbeck stormed off after a Hot Topics debate on August 2, 2006 about morning-after pill got too heated for the show's former conservative co-host. She argued that "taking the pill is "the same thing as birthing a baby and leaving it out in the street." She was too passionate in delivering her opinion that she wouldn't let the other co-hosts provide their opposing points of view.

Walters then interrupted her, saying, "Could you stop now? We have to go on and we have to learn how to discuss these things in some sort of rational way." Hasselbeck seemingly was offended that Walters chose to scold her on-air, so she left the room as the show cut to a commercial after ripping her notecards.

Obtained by Variety, the audio featured Hasselbeck swearing in a narrow corridor behind the stage. "F**k that! I'm not going to sit there and get reprimanded on the air. It's not ok to sit there and get reprimanded on the air," Hasselbeck said angrily. Joy Behar tried to calm her down and asked her to come into her office, though Hasselbeck refused.

"What the f**k!" she continued ranting. "I don't even swear. She has me swearing. This woman is driving me nuts. I'm not going back. I can't do the show like this. She just reprimanded me, and she knew exactly what she was doing. Good-bye! I'm off. Write about that in the New York F***ING Post!"

"I quit. I'm quitting," Hasselbeck was heard saying. "I don't need to be reprimanded on-air like that by this woman. I will take it in the meeting. I will not take that on-air. I'm over. I'm leaving."

Walters, meanwhile, thought that was "ridiculous" when she heard that Hasselbeck had quit. It was only minutes before the live program had to return, and executive producer Bill Geddie came to Hasselbeck to convince her to come back because "you're a pro." Geddie told her that he already had some words with Walters for "humiliating her [Hasselbeck] for thinking what she thought."

"No, not even that, Bill," Hasselbeck responded. "But it's like... to talk down to me and say, 'We have to learn how to discuss this.' She can't do that to people, Bill. It's not ok." They eventually returned to the set by stairs.

Hasselbeck and Walters were later seen making up in the episode following the break. They even hugged each other with Hasselbeck kissing Walter's cheek.

Following the release of the audio, Hasselbeck responded in an official statement she posted on Instagram. She said that she "used bad words when frustrated" with the conversation. "I was pregnant with Taylor and a big conversation about the value and the lives of the unborn took place at the View," she wrote. "It was a battle -but not of the flesh. I used fighting words because I believe that God decides the value of the lives of babies."

Hasselbeck added that "God has changed my ways. He has given me a new thing -- it is my heart. He literally did that and I wrote a lot about it in #PointOfViewBook and I boast of plenty of failure and imperfection there." She continued writing, "I still hold all my Constitutionally protected rights to freedom of faith : but now: I can hold the hand of the person who does not agree at the same time."

This. Just. In: Yes-There were times when I was quite humanly reactive. I used a bad word when frustrated. I was pregnant with Taylor and a big conversation about the value and the lives of the unborn took place at the View. It was a battle -but not of the flesh. I used fighting words because I believe that God decides the value of the lives of babies. We care for a group of Robinโ€™s eggs in a nest before they are hatched and likely would think twice before stomping on the awesome blue shells because we know what God placed inside the hard womb. And in the heat of the moment, when I felt the need to protect what I knew to be truth and had seen with my own eyes on ultrasound the LIFE in my own shell of a body- I used big battle words (one in particular that I am not proud of and am sorry for using in the heat of trying to defend the lives of the unborn). 2 things I have grown to learn: 1) there are words that DISTRACT from your point: Choose wisely 2) I have a God who fights the battle. I donโ€™t have to do that all on my own. God has changed my ways. He has given me a new thing - it is my heart. He literally did that and I wrote a lot about it in #PointOfViewBook and I boast of plenty of failure and imperfection there. I still hold all my Constitutionally protected rights to freedom of faith : but now: I can hold the hand of the person who does not agree at the same time ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’• because I believe that we can do that by His grace. hold truth and hold grace as best we can. BY HIS POWER. In my weakness I am made strong. My new word that begins with the letter F: FAITHFUL Because that is who GOD IS

Hasselbeck didn't quit after the fight, but she did exit the morning show in 2013. According to "Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of 'The View' ", the hard feelings were still there since Hasselbeck allegedly "turned down ABC's request" when Walters wanted to do a reunion back in 2016.
