AceShowbiz - Jill Scott has returned to the top of Billboard's Adult R&B Airplay chart, ending a nearly 13-year hiatus as her single "Pressha" claimed the No. 1 spot on the chart dated March 14.
The track, released through Blues Bebe/Human Re Sources, climbed from No. 2 to No. 1 following a 6% increase in plays during the tracking week of February 27 to March 5, according to data from Luminate. "Pressha" was the most-played song on adult R&B radio stations monitored by Billboard for this period.
With this rise, Scott knocked off Kehlani’s "Folded," which had held the top position for two weeks prior. The new chart leader solidifies Scott’s influence and marks her fifth No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Scott’s previous chart-toppers include "A Long Walk," which led for seven weeks in March-April 2001; "Whatever," which spent one week at No. 1 in February 2005; "So in Love," featuring Anthony Hamilton, which held the position for 18 weeks from July to October 2012; and "Blessed," which topped the chart for one week in June 2012.
Notably, "So in Love" remains the record-holder for the most weeks at No. 1 in the history of the Adult R&B Airplay chart, which was established in September 1993.
The current achievement closes a gap of 13 years, 8 months, and two weeks between No. 1 hits for Scott. This lengthy interval is second only to Mariah Carey, who waited nearly 19 years between No. 1s on the same chart, from "Fly Like a Bird" in September 2006 to "Type Dangerous" in August 2025.
"Pressha" is the lead single from Scott’s latest album, To Whom This May Concern, her first full-length release since 2015's Woman. The album debuted at No. 10 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, marking her ninth project to enter the top 10.
Scott’s comeback was warmly received by her core radio audience, with "Pressha" reaching No. 1 in just its eighth week on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. This is her fastest ascent to the top compared to her previous No. 1 hits, beating "So in Love," which took 10 weeks. Among all artists, this is also the quickest climb since Rihanna’s "Lift Me Up," which similarly took eight weeks to reach No. 1.
Beyond Adult R&B Airplay, "Pressha" also holds the No. 11 spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which measures combined audience impressions across adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations. The track recorded 7.3 million audience impressions during the week, a 6% increase compared to the prior tracking period.
Jill Scott’s return to the top of the Adult R&B Airplay chart underscores her enduring appeal and ability to connect with listeners after more than a decade since her last chart-topping single. With the momentum behind "Pressha" and To Whom This May Concern, Scott continues to make significant strides in the R&B genre.
