Katie Maloney, a longtime star of 'Vanderpump Rules,' hasn't minced words about Bravo's decision to reboot the beloved reality series with a whole new cast.

AceShowbiz - Katie Maloney, who graced the screens of "Vanderpump Rules" for 11 seasons, is skeptical about the upcoming reboot of the popular Bravo series. During an appearance on the "Detox Retox" podcast, hosted by her ex-husband and former co-star Tom Schwartz, she shared her thoughts about the decision to introduce an entirely new cast to the show.
"This isn't against any of [the new cast]. I don't know them, but it just feels cheap to me. It feels cheap and I don't like cheap," Maloney, 38, stated.
She elaborated that her issue is not with the new cast members but with the idea of continuing the show with a different ensemble, "With the same name [but] different show. There's not even a season one. To me, it just feels like it's going to try to have the same flavor and the same everything."
Maloney's decision to step away from "Vanderpump Rules" came long before the network revealed its plans for a fresh cast. According to Maloney, she had already informed producers of her decision to leave, feeling that her life was heading in a new direction.
"I had made a decision months ago after this past season. I needed to move on with my life. I had talked to our producers about it and I told them my decision on that. I felt personally ready to move on from the show. I felt like my life and where I was at was moving in a different direction. Mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, I was prepared to move on from the show," she revealed on her own "Disrespectfully" podcast in December 2024.
The "VPR" underwent major shakeup following the infamous "Scandoval" cheating scandal involving Tom Sandoval and Rachel Leviss. The dramatic fallout of the scandal was heavily documented in season 11 and likely influenced Bravo's decision to start fresh with a new cast for season 12, set to premiere in 2025.
Lisa Vanderpump, the show's titular matriarch, shares a more optimistic outlook towards the reboot. While acknowledging the extraordinary run the series had with its original cast, she believes that the new season will bring a "different energy" and stick to the original premise of showcasing the complexities of running a restaurant.
"The last 12 years of filming have been an extraordinary run full of laughter, tears and everything in between,” Vanderpump stated in Bravo's November 2024 press release. "I can't thank enough those who have shared their lives. How I love you all."
As the new season promises to return to its roots at SUR in West Hollywood, fans and former stars alike are divided on whether the reboot will live up to the legacy of the original. Only time will tell if the new cast can capture the same magic that made "Vanderpump Rules" a staple of reality TV.
