Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film injected much-needed vitality into the North American box office, pulling in a staggering $88.5 million over the three-day weekend.
Estimates predict this figure to swell to $100 million by the end of the Presidents' Day holiday, with a global total reaching $192.4 million. This record places "Brave New World" among the MCU's mid-range openers, though it's noteworthy for the fourth-largest Presidents' Day opening.
"Brave New World" scored a 51% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a B- CinemaScore, but an 80% audience approval rating, highlighting a divide between critics and viewers.
The movie features Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross, who transforms into the Red Hulk. Other cast members included Liv Tyler, Seth Rollins, Rosa Salazar, Danny Ramirez, Giancarlo Esposito, Mark Ruffalo, and Tim Blake Nelson.
Second place at the box office went to "Paddington in Peru," the heartwarming sequel about the lovable stuffed bear. Opening in North America with $13 million, the film's international run boosts its overall tally to $131 million.
Other notable releases included slasher rom-com "Heart Eyes," which earned $10 million and the family-friendly "Dog Man," adding another $9.7 million to a total of $84.4 million globally. Rounding up the top 5 is Chinese blockbuster "Ne Zha 2" which debuted in North America with $7.2 million, adding to its colossal $1.6 billion global earnings.
