'Succession' actor Jeremy Strong defends his decision to immerse himself deeply in his characters after he was criticized by his TV dad and sibling following the conclusion of their show.

AceShowbiz - Method acting has often been used by Hollywood biggest stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep, but when it comes to the stars of HBO's acclaimed series "Succession," this approach has sparked fictions among cast members.

The rift became apparent when Brian Cox and Kieran Culkin, who play central roles in the series, have candidly criticized their co-star Jeremy Strong's approach to his portrayal as Kendall Roy in the show.

Strong did not shy away from addressing these criticisms. Without mentioning his co-stars, he said in a Deadline interview, "Lately, people have felt a need to take shots at me or say disparaging things, which I don't really think there's any need for."

Emphasizing the significance of his process to his identity, Strong reiterated his belief in the power of storytelling through character - an approach he considers the "holy grail" of acting. "It's about transcending impersonation and finding the essence in a deep, serious way," he explained.

Strong used similar approach for his latest role of Roy Cohn in "The Apprentice," a film about President-elect Donald Trump. "I absorb and learn everything and study them endlessly," Strong revealed, drawing inspiration from transformative performances by Hollywood veterans like Ben Kingsley and Daniel Day-Lewis.

Brian Cox, who played Strong's TV dad and worked closely with him, was not too impressed by such technique, claiming Strong's extreme method acting created "hostility" on set. "He would be an even better actor if he just got rid of that," Cox remarked, suggesting that Strong's approach disruptively blurs the lines between character and actor.

Kieran Culkin, who plays Roman Roy, echoed some of Cox's sentiments during a conversation with Colman Domingo for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series. Culkin took issue with actors referring to themselves as storytellers - a term Strong holds dear. "I don't really like that," Culkin said plainly, directly mentioning Strong in his critique.
