AceShowbiz - Comedian Katt Williams has expressed regret over past jokes he made about the late Michael Jackson, acknowledging the harm they caused and his responsibility as a Black voice.
In a recent interview at the Vulture Festival, Katt Williams discussed his controversial jokes about Michael Jackson. He admitted that he regrets making them and recognized how they perpetuate the oppression of Black people. "I shouldn't have," Williams said. "Our ability to tear down our own kind helps the enemy let us become famous."
He explained that as a Black man, he felt hurt by Jackson as an icon. However, he now understands the importance of self-love and support within the Black community. "Those were the jokes of a guy that was hurt by an icon," Williams said.
Despite his apology, Williams emphasized that he remains committed to using his platform to voice the opinions of marginalized groups. "My job is to be funny first," he said, "but also to voice the opinion of a group that doesn't get to have their opinion out there."
Williams' comments come amidst ongoing controversies surrounding his remarks about other Black comedians and the entertainment industry. However, he has also received support from some colleagues, including Faizon Love, who has called for unity within the Black comedy community.
