AceShowbiz - As "Saturday Night Live (SNL)" celebrates its 50th anniversary, NBC is set to premiere a compelling new documentary titled "Ladies & Gentlemen... 50 Years of SNL Music". This three-hour special, directed by Oscar winner Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson and Emmy winner Oz Rodriguez, promises to unveil the untold stories behind some of the most iconic musical performances, sketches and cameos that have defined the show over the past five decades.
Scheduled to air on January 27, 2025 at 8 P.M. ET/PT on NBC, with streaming available the following day on Peacock, the documentary explores the rich history of "SNL" musical segments. Questlove, who also serves as an executive producer, alongside Lorne Michaels, Zarah Zohlman, Erin David, Dave Sirulnick, Jon Kamen, Meredith Bennett, Alexander H. Browne, Shawn Gee and Tariq Trotter, shared his excitement about the project, "Everyone knows the most famous 'SNL' appearances, whether it's Elvis Costello, Prince or the Beastie Boys, but they're the tip of a huge iceberg. The process of going back through the incredible archival footage was like being in a time machine, DeLorean or other. I'm so happy I went on the trip and now get to share it with everyone."
Produced by Two One Five Entertainment, RadicalMedia and Broadway Video, "Ladies & Gentlemen... 50 Years of SNL Music" features interviews with a stellar lineup of musicians who have graced the studio 8H stage. These include Bad Bunny, DJ Breakout, Elvis Costello, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, Dave Grohl, Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, Mick Jagger, Dua Lipa, Darryl DMC McDaniels, Tom Morello, Kacey Musgraves, Olivia Rodrigo, MC Sha-Rack, Paul Simon, Chris Stapleton, Justin Timberlake, Lee Ving and Jack White.
The program also includes insights from "SNL" cast members and creatives past and present, such as Fred Armisen, Conan O'Brien, Jane Curtin, Jimmy Fallon, Al Franken, Bill Hader, Eddie Murphy, Andy Samberg, Kenan Thompson, Maya Rudolph, Bowen Yang and many more. Their anecdotes and behind-the-scenes reveals are sure to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
This documentary is part of a broader celebration of "SNL" milestone anniversary, which includes a four-part docuseries, "SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night", debuting on Peacock on January 16, 2025, followed by a live primetime special on February 16, 2025 on NBC and Peacock.
