Fisher Stevens, born Stephen Fisher on November 27, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, is a versatile American actor, director, producer, and writer who has built a remarkable career spanning over four decades. He is perhaps best known to mainstream audiences for his comedic turn as Ben Jabituya in the 1986 science fiction comedy Short Circuit and its 1988 sequel Short Circuit 2, roles that showcased his knack for physical comedy and quirky character work. Yet Stevens has proven himself far more than a one-note performer, earning an Academy Award as a producer of the documentary The Cove in 2009 and establishing himself as a respected filmmaker in his own right.

Stevens began his career as a child actor, making his Broadway debut at age 14 in the play "Torch Song Trilogy" and later appearing in the soap opera One Life to Live. His early film roles included a part in The Burning and a memorable appearance in Reversal of Fortune opposite Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close. Throughout the 1990s, he became a familiar face in both film and television, playing a journalist in Bob Roberts opposite Tim Robbins, a hacker in the cult classic Hackers alongside Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller, and a regular role as Chuck Fishman on the CBS series Early Edition from 1996 to 2000. He also appeared in Woody Allen's Anything Else and continued to work steadily in independent cinema.

Stevens's directorial debut came with the documentary Crazy Love in 2007, a critically acclaimed film about a bizarre love story that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He followed this by producing The Cove, the Oscar-winning documentary exposing dolphin hunting in Japan, which brought him to the forefront of socially conscious filmmaking. He later directed the climate change documentary Before the Flood in 2016, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, and has since directed episodes of television series including The Morning Show and Ozark. His work as a producer also includes the documentary The Mask You Live In and the series The Little Things.

In the 2010s and 2020s, Stevens found renewed prominence as a character actor, particularly through his collaborations with director Wes Anderson. He appeared in The Grand Budapest Hotel, voiced a character in Isle of Dogs, and had roles in The French Dispatch and Asteroid City. On television, he played the recurring role of Marvin Gerard on The Blacklist, Gabriel Kovac on The Good Fight, and most notably portrayed Hugo Baker, the scheming communications executive, on the acclaimed HBO drama Succession from 2019 to 2023. His performance on Succession earned him widespread praise and introduced him to a new generation of viewers. Stevens continues to balance acting, directing, and producing, maintaining a diverse and active career in the entertainment industry.
