AceShowbiz - Erin Foster candidly shared her fears on the "LadyGang" podcast about her relationship potentially ending because of Netflix's new series "Nobody Wants This." The rom-com, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, mirrors Foster's own journey of falling in love with her husband Simon Tikhman. The show's genuine depiction of relationships struck a chord with audiences, resulting in Netflix renewing it for Season 2.
Foster revealed that discussing the show's premise, which involves meeting her partner and dealing with his family's disapproval, was a delicate topic. When she told Tikhman she sold a show idea based on their romance, he was understandably worried, "You can't write about my family."
However, a conversation with her father-in-law, coupled with a cheeky response of, "Just don't make us look poor," put some of her fears to rest. The show's nuanced portrayal of their love story has clearly resonated, with Foster herself noting, "Creating 'Nobody Wants This' will forever be a career highlight for me."
It's notable that while the details in "Nobody Wants This" aren't exact replicas of their real-life events, the emotions are. Foster's character, Joanne, is very much inspired by her. "The emotional journey, I would say, is very accurate to my experience of meeting my husband," said Foster, who converted to Judaism before marrying Tikhman in 2019. Both Foster and her husband came from different backgrounds which added more depth to the show's romantic comedy elements.
The show also compares amusingly with real life, such as an episode where Noah (Brody) meets Joanne's (Bell) mom while holding sunflowers, giving her the "ick." Interestingly, Tikhman actually brought sunflowers for Erin's mother, charming her just enough to cement his place in the family. These genuine, heartfelt moments combined with comedic flair have won over audiences.
Joining Foster for the upcoming season as executive producers and showrunners are Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both known for their work on "Girls." "It's a dream to be working on 'Nobody Wants This,' " says Konner. In addition to this strong creative team, Nora Silver will join as executive producer.
Aimed at young adults who appreciate a mix of humor and genuine emotion, "Nobody Wants This" continues to tell a story that is both personal and universally appealing. The first season of the 10-episode series is currently streaming on Netflix, keeping fans eagerly awaiting more of Foster's rom-com magic in the next season.
