AceShowbiz - Former reality star Julie Chrisley expressed remorse during a hearing in an Atlanta courtroom on Wednesday, September 25, after being resentenced for tax evasion and bank fraud. Despite her apology, Chrisley was given 84 months behind bars-the same sentence she received when originally sentenced in 2022.
"I'm sorry for my actions and situations that led us to where we are today," Chrisley told the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia before the judge's ruling.
Chrisley also expressed regret for her actions and the impact on her family, including her children Savannah Chrisley and Chase Chrisley, who were present in the courtroom. She emphasized her efforts to improve her skills and prepare for life after prison.
Julie Chrisley's attorney, Alex Little, had requested a reduced sentence, arguing that she played a minor role in the crimes and her initial sentence was excessive. U.S. attorneys, however, maintained that she was a "core part" of the fraud scheme.
In a 50-minute hearing, U.S. District Judge Eleanor L. Ross upheld her 2022 ruling, stating that it was already a reduced sentence and below what prosecutors had recommended.
Savannah Chrisley, who attended the hearing, claimed that her parents' prosecution was politically motivated. She also indicated that her mother's legal team would appeal the new sentence.
Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were convicted in June 2022 of obtaining $30 million in fraudulent loans and evading taxes. While Todd received a 12-year sentence, Julie Chrisley initially received seven years. In June, her sentence was vacated after a panel of judges determined insufficient evidence had been presented to prove her involvement in the entire bank fraud scheme.
Both Chrisleys have maintained their innocence and claim they were the victims of a political witch hunt. They began serving their sentences in January 2023 and are expected to be released in 2032 (Todd) and 2028 (Julie).
