AceShowbiz - Daisy Edgar-Jones, who was initially cast to portray legendary singer-songwriter Carole King in the biopic "Beautiful", has announced her departure from the project. The announcement comes over a year after her initial involvement in the film.
"That's no longer happening," Edgar-Jones told Variety. "I love Carole and I love that story, but it was a year ago that they decided [to no longer pursue it]."
Despite her departure, Edgar-Jones remains a fan of the project and has met King herself. "I did learn a lot of piano," she said. "I think it's a gorgeous story, and the script probably needs a little more time in the oven."
Variety clarified that the film remains in development at Sony Pictures, despite Edgar-Jones' departure.
Meanwhile, Edgar-Jones' other project "Twisters", a sequel to the 1996 tornado-chasing film, is still on track for release. The actress expressed her enthusiasm for the role, particularly its focus on the human experience amidst the natural disaster.
Edgar-Jones also discussed her close friendship with "Normal People" co-star Paul Mescal, her love for people-watching in London, and the meaning behind the enduring resonance of "Normal People" with audiences.
She concluded by noting her interest in a potential sequel to "Twisters", "I would have to read a script first and see what's going on, but definitely. I love that world of storm-chasing. I think it would be fun to see what they could do next."
"Twisters" premieres in theaters in the U.K. on July 17 and the U.S. on July 19.
