On August 26, 2026, Superstar Pride posted his first selfie since his incarceration in 2023. The photo showed him smiling at a dentist’s office, accompanied by the caption, You got to start somewhere. #firstdayout. Alongside this, he released the song and video First Day Out, which features scenes of him getting what appears to be his first haircut since his release.
The rapper was arrested in 2023 and charged with first-degree murder following the shooting death of a 40-year-old man in Panola County, Mississippi. Police responded to a call at a residence where they found the man deceased from gunshot wounds. After an investigation, Superstar Pride was identified as a suspect and surrendered himself to authorities a few hours later.
Later reports indicated that the victim was in fact Superstar Pride’s barber. The arrest came at a critical point in his career, shortly after his 2022 hit song Painting Pictures went viral and gained significant traction.
Following his arrest, the rapper had a bond hearing a month later where the judge ruled he should remain in custody. Superstar Pride stayed in jail for over three years until his recent release this week. The reasons behind his release have not been publicly disclosed at this time.
A spokesperson for Superstar Pride released a statement to XXL, emphasizing that he is focused and grateful for a new chapter in his life. The spokesperson noted that the rapper is back in the studio, creatively engaged, and working on music that reflects his current journey and future goals. They highlighted that his priorities now include growth, family, music, and appreciating the fans who have supported him throughout.
XXL has reached out to the Panola County Clerk’s Office for comment but has yet to receive a response.
