The veteran actor, famed for his roles in 'Pretty Woman' and 'Chicago', is set to star in a political espionage television thriller co-produced by George Clooney.

AceShowbiz - Richard Gere, known for his iconic roles in movies such as "Pretty Woman" and "Chicago", is making a significant shift to television. The 74-year-old actor has been cast in Showtime's upcoming political thriller "The Agency", marking his first major TV series role. This new venture sees Gere take on the role of Bosko, a London Station Chief with a rich history as an undercover agent.

"The Agency" is a remake of the critically acclaimed French series "The Bureau". The American adaptation is being produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov through their production company, Smokehouse Pictures. The show is currently in production in London and will be available for streaming on Paramount+.

Gere's involvement has drawn considerable attention, with Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, commenting, "Richard Gere is in a class of his own, adored by generations of fans worldwide for his exceptional ability to infuse depth and authenticity into every role he plays."

Joining Gere in the ensemble cast are Hollywood heavyweights Michael Fassbender and Jeffrey Wright. Fassbender will portray Martian, a covert CIA agent ordered to leave his undercover life and return to the London Station. His character's past love reemerges, leading to a complex mix of romance, espionage, and international intrigue. Wright will star as Henry, the director of operations and a mentor to Martian.

The plot centers on Martian's struggle as his career, real identity, and mission clash with his revived romance, plunging the characters into a deadly game of secrets and spying. The show promises to deliver intense action and deep character studies, much like its French predecessor.

Despite this being his first major television role, Gere is no stranger to the small screen. He previously received an Emmy nomination for his part in the 1994 limited series "And the Band Played On"". Gere has also made brief appearances in other TV projects over the years but has predominantly remained a force in the film industry.

Aside from "The Agency", Gere's other upcoming projects include the film "O Canada", directed by Paul Schrader and co-starring Uma Thurman and Jacob Elordi, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May. He will also appear alongside Diane Keaton and Blake Lively in the romantic dramady "The Making Of".

As audiences eagerly await the release of "The Agency", it's clear that Richard Gere's transition to television promises to be as impressive as his storied career on the big screen.
