Other early winners are 'The White Lotus' actress Jennifer Coolidge and 'The Bear' star Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who joins Edebiri as another actor scoring their first Emmy that night.

AceShowbiz - The 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards officially kicked off on Monday, January 15 at the Peacock Theater. Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the awards-giving ceremony began presenting awards to the 2023 winners, including first-timers  Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

At the event, Edebiri won her first Emmy after being named as the winner of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on "The Bear". She successfully edged out Alex Borstein ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Hannah Waddingham ("Ted Lasso"), Janelle James ("Abbott Elementary"), Juno Temple ("Ted Lasso") and Sheryl Lee Ralph ("Abbott Elementary").

In her speech, Edebiri thanked her family for their support, saying, "This is a show about found family and real family, and my parents are here tonight." She added, "I'm making them sit kind of far away from me because I'm a bad kid. But I love you so much. Thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and black and proud of all of that. I just love you so much."

"Probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and to have your kid be like, 'I want to do improv,' " she jokingly added. "But you're real ones."

Quinta Brunson, meanwhile, won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Janine Teagues on "Abbott Elementary". This marked the actress' first-ever acting Emmy. She also made history as the first black actress to win the category after Isabel Sanford for "The Jeffersons" back in 1981.

"I love making 'Abbott Elementary' so much and I am so happy to be able to live my dream and act out comedy," Brunson, who won best writing for a comedy series at the Emmys last year, shared during her award acceptance speech. "I say it every time, but I just love comedy so much that I am so happy to be able to get this."

Another early winner on the big night was Jennifer Coolidge, who was presented with the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, thanks to her appearance on "The White Lotus". Also running for the award were Aubrey Plaza ("The White Lotus"), Elizabeth Debicki ("The Crown"), J. Smith-Cameron ("Succession"), Meghann Fahy ("The White Lotus"), Sabrina Impacciatore ("The White Lotus") and Rhea Seehorn ("Better Call Saul").

Later that night, Matthew Macfadyen won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award for his appearance on "Succession". It was his second Emmy for his role as Tom Wambsgans on the hit HBO series.

As for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, the award went to "The Bear" star Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The Richard Jerimovich depicter joined Edebiri as another actor scoring their first Emmy that night.
