The 'About Damn Time' hitmaker sparks outrage from the conservatives after playing a 200-year-old crystal flute that belonged to the former U.S. president at her recent Washington D.C. concert.

AceShowbiz - The ladies on "The View" weighed in on the controversy surrounding Lizzo's recent Washington, D.C. concert. In the Friday, September 30 episode of the morning talk show, the co-hosts defended the "About Damn Time" hitmaker for playing a 200-year-old crystal flute that belonged to former U.S. President James Madison amid criticism.
In the episode, new conservative co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said that Lizzo's performance brought "attention to history." She said, "If you have time to be outrage, you probably need a hobby and I would suggest the flute."
Noting that the Grammy-winning artist is a "classically trained" flautist with deep experience in the performing arts, Alyssa added, "You could see how excited she was. … Also, most people didn't even know this flute existed before. If anything, she's bringing attention to history."
Meanwhile, Ana Navarro noted that before she performed with James' instrument on Tuesday night, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayde asked the musician to visit the government's collection of roughly 1,700 flutes on Monday. "She invited Lizzo to come and do this, and that makes it history," Sunny Hostin then opined.
She continued, "Then you have some people on the right who said that the Library of Congress really took out its 200-year-old flute that belonged to James Madison just so Lizzo could twerk with it [and that would] degrade our history. Well, James Madison owned 100 slaves - that's a degradation of history."
"It's a full-circle moment for American history… This is the promise of America: You have a slave's ancestor playing the 200-year-old flute," Sunny added.
After playing a quick medley with the crystal flute on her show, Lizzo took to Twitter to celebrate the fact that she's the first person to play it. "NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD THIS FAMOUS CRYSTAL FLUTE BEFORE. NOW YOU HAVE," the "Truth Hurts" singer tweeted after the concert. "IM THE FIRST & ONLY PERSON TO EVER PLAY THIS PRESIDENTIAL 200-YEAR-OLD CRYSTAL FLUTE- THANK YOU @librarycongress."
