AceShowbiz - DaBaby previously made headlines after it was reported that he shot a home intruder who tried to get into his North Carolina residence. In a new interview, the rapper shared his side of the story, noting that things would have turned out differently if his kids were at home.
"They ain't break into my house, they jumped a fence, onto the estate," the "ROCKSTAR" spitter said on "Full Send Podcast". "They had a hoodie on and was, like, kneeled down behind a wall and some s**t."
He claimed that he was working in the studio when his contractor called him to let him know that there was someone on the football field. The rapper added that he felt as if the perpetrator had "ill intent," though he noted that the intruder wasn't armed.
DaBaby shot the man in the leg after the unnamed man broke into his $2.3M mansion in Troutman, North Carolina at night. While he survived the shooting, Dababy said that if his children were at home, things may have turned out differently because he would do it more aggressively to protect his kids.
After the incident, DaBaby called 911 to report the ordeal. "He's trespassing on my property ... I don't know what he's here for. What he's here to take, what he's here to do... He's neutralized until you guys get here," he said. When the dispatcher asked, "Are you with him now?" the emcee said, "Yes, he's right here in front of me... He's bleeding. He's been shot."
When the operator asked him more questions, DaBaby snapped. "I already told you what happened! Somebody else might be with this guy!" he fumed. "You can interrogate me when y'all get here and save this man's life. That's why I'm calling you! I don't want somebody else sneakin' up on me!"
According to GossipOfTheCity, the shooting victim was an elderly man with dementia who was known in the neighborhood. "Just to be clear the guy he shot was over 67 years old. It's the reason the news hasn't shown him. He shot a very old person who is known around that neighborhood. The old man had dementia," the news outlet alleged, though the information hasn't been confirmed by any news stations.
DaBaby wasn't charged despite the shooting case. In May, the Troutman Police Department released a statement on Facebook that read, "The investigation into the shooting incident that occurred at 135 Stillwater Drive on April 13, 2022, has been completed and closed." It added, "Investigators have consulted with the Iredell County District Attorney's Office and there will be no criminal charges filed at this time."
