Taking to Instagram, the rapper explains to those calling him 'ignorant thug with a gun' how the firearm ends up in his luggage.

AceShowbiz - Hip-hop star T-Pain is downplaying his gun incident at a Georgia airport last week, ends August 31, insisting it was a "mistake".

The Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin') hitmaker was prevented from boarding his flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Friday, August 31 after customs officials found a gun in his carry-on luggage.

The singer's bag was reportedly flagged during a checkpoint screening and when Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents inspected it, they found a loaded Smith & Wesson .380 inside.

T-Pain, real name Faheem Rashad Najm, was detained for questioning and subsequently given a $200 (£155) fine after he produced a permit to carry the firearm.

In a new post on Instagram, the rapper explains how the gun ended up in his luggage, claiming he had asked one of his security guards to gather the firearms and jewellery he keeps at his home and pack it away for safekeeping while he filmed a project in his house. The items were unexpectedly placed in the same bag that he ended up taking to the airport.

"For everybody reading headlines and making their own stories and calling me an 'ignorant thug with a gun' just because that's what you draw from my image," he captioned the clip. "What they're NOT talking about is how I didn't leave my Security stuck there with MY gun when most artist would've ran off from fear of the press... it was an honest mistake (sic)".

"NO CHARGES. NO ARRESTS," he added. "All my guns are legal, registered to me under my license to carry and out of the reach of my children because I'm not a dumba**. Atlanta PD unloaded the rounds and handed it right back to me, I sent it home and caught the next flight out".
