AceShowbiz - Hulu has unearthed a new teaser for its upcoming thriller series "Castle Rock", which is set in Stephen King's fictional Maine town. To be aired in between this weekend's Super Bowl, the teaser sees all of fan-favorite tropes from Stephen King universes uniting, successfully hiking up the scare.
The spooky trailer opens with Andre Holland's Henry being drawn back to his gloomy hometown. When Scott Glenn's Alan Pangborn asks him what brings him home, Henry says that he receives a call from Shawshank, the prison from "The Shawshank Redemption".
"It" star Bill Skarsgard is also briefly glimpsed in the eerie trailer. Skarsgard's still-unnamed inmate character is seen picking up the phone presumably from Henry, who is shown in the following scene. There is also a group of masked kids who gather in a dimlit room, before a scene features leading actress Melanie Lynskey's real estate agent Molly Strand driving a car while looking appalled.
The teaser features some Stephen King references, which fans of the popular author's works will find familiar. At one point, a blood-soaked German Shepherd, which many assume to be a Cujo reference, frightens Sissy Spacek's character in her bed. She later warns Henry, "I think that something terrible is going to happen… it's happening."
Skarsgard previously revealed that he felt "hesitant" before taking the role in the shared-universe project. "I had just done Pennywise. I was terrified of how people would think about it, if they would hate it and if I'd let people down," he said, adding that he's now "happy" for deciding to join the show.
Hailing from King and J.J. Abrams, "Castle Rock" is "a psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse" that "combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King's best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland." Each season of the series will "follow different set of characters and storylines while interjecting themes and specific characters from previous seasons."
There is no exact premiere date yet, but the 10-episode series is set to arrive this summer on Hulu.
