The 'New Girl' actor is announced to portray the role made famous by Danny Glover in the original 1987 movie.

AceShowbiz - "Lethal Weapon" remake has found one of its cops. Damon Wayans Jr. ("New Girl", "Happy Endings") is tapped to play LAPD detective named Roger Murtaugh, a role originally played by Danny Glover in the 1987 buddy cop action film.

The series will follow Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs who moves to Los Angeles to start anew after suffering the loss of his wife and baby. There, he gets partnered with Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a 'minor' heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.

Riggs was portrayed by Mel Gibson in the original movie which premise was slightly different from that of the TV reboot. Instead of health issue, Murtaugh was on the verge of retirement. He was famous for his "I'm too old for this sh*t" line. He and Riggs were Vietnam War veterans.

McG ("Terminator Salvation") is set to direct the TV pilot and Matt Miller ("Chuck") is the showrunner while Dan Lin ("The Lego Movie") serves as an executive producer along with Jennifer Gwartz. The project has got a pilot commitment from FOX. It reunites Miller with Lin after their work in last year's ABC drama "Forever", which was canceled after one season.
