AceShowbiz - Tina Fey and Meryl Streep were among many celebrities who reacted to the Charlie Hebdo shooting. On Wednesday, January 7, 12 people were killed in an armed attack at the Paris headquarters of the satirical newspaper.

Asked about the tragedy, Tina told reporters at the Television Critics' Association press tour, "Obviously this is terrible and tragic and upsetting. It makes you remember how important free speech is and must be defended. We all must stand firm on issue of free speech... We are Americans. Even if it's just dumb jokes in 'The Interview', we have the right to make them."

Meryl, meanwhile, shared her opinion at the London premiere of her movie "Into the Woods". "Terrible, terrible. Overwhelmingly sad," she said, "But the antidote for that is to live joyously, tolerantly and with attention."

Other celebrities took to Twitter to voice their opinion regarding the tragedy. Bill Maher wrote, "Condemning attack is not enuf: unless U strongly endorse the right of anyone to make fun of any religion/prophet, U r not a moderate Muslim." Piers Morgan tweeted, "The pen is mightier than the sword. #JeSuisCharlie." Craig Ferguson, meanwhile, posted, "I feel I must add my own small voice against the revolting attack in Paris. #jesuischarlie."

Ricky Gervais posted a lengthy message on the social media site. "Blasphemy: A law to protect an all-powerful, supernatural deity from getting its feelings hurt," he wrote, "If I believed in an all-powerful God I'd also assume he could do his own murders. Here's to rational thought, truth, education, evidence & freedom of expression one day leading to peace on earth."

Some celebrities like Mark Ruffalo, Albert Brooks and J.K. Rowling tweeted some caricatures referencing to the attack.

Alyssa Milano, Kerry Washington, Julianne Moore, Elijah Wood and Donald Trump, meanwhile, expressed their condolences. Alyssa wrote, "Paris is in my heart." Kerry posted, "My prayers are with Paris." Julianne tweeted, "I am heartbroken by the loss of life and attack on freedom of expression. #JeSuisCharlie."

Elijah posted, "My thoughts are with the victims and their families in Paris. #CharlieHebdo #JeSuisCharlie." Donald, meanwhile, wrote, "My condolences and prayers to the victims of the terrorist attack in Paris."

Earlier on the day, President Barack Obama issued a statement regarding the attack. "The fact that this was an attack on journalists, an attack on our free press, also underscores that these terrorists fear freedom of speech and freedom of the press," he said, "A universal belief in the freedom of expression is something that can't be silenced because of the senseless violence of the few."
