AceShowbiz - In a world where celebrities are spearheading wellness brands, alcohol lines, and even fast food ventures, Tina Fey holds a firm stance against the trend. In her recent guest appearance on Amy Poehler's new podcast, "Good Hang with Amy Poehler", Fey explained her aversion to side hustles, especially when it comes to wealthy individuals.
During the podcast episode that aired on March 18, the discussion shifted from a light-hearted compliment about Fey's hair to a more in-depth debate about side hustles.
Poehler, who commended Fey's "incredible hair," suggested that her long-time friend consider launching a hair campaign or eyeglasses line. However, Fey's response took many by surprise. "I have a problem with rich people having a side hustle," she asserted, adding, "If you already have like $200 million … I judge it."
Poehler encouraged Fey to adapt her viewpoint, especially considering the entrepreneurial spirit of Gen Z. "They don't judge it!" Poehler exclaimed. But Fey held her ground, clarifying, "I judge it."
The conversation delved deeper into Fey's financial philosophy. Despite being a hugely successful actress and writer, Fey admitted, "I do kind of hate money," clarifying, "I'm not terrible; I don't waste money, but I don't get excited about money." For her, the financial goal has always been about feeling "safe" and having "enough money to live."
Fey recalled a particular instance that solidifies her stance on celebrity side hustles. She mentioned an '80s actress promoting a line of homeopathic children's medications. "I was like, 'Why on this Earth would I trust an actress for pediatric medications?' " she questioned.
The comedic duo's banter showed their longstanding friendship. They've worked together on projects like "Saturday Night Live" and hosted Golden Globes multiple times. Poehler jokingly referred to herself as Fey's "second wife," highlighting the depth of their camaraderie.
During their joint appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Poehler even referred to herself as a "nepo friend," admitting that being friends with Fey helped her secure a spot on "SNL."
