Ruby's got a dilemma. She just joined a soccer team, but they don't have a coach. Patrick and Audie leap at the change to help, but they can't both be coach. At least, not according to Patrick, who wants the job all to himself.
Audie bows out graciously, and Patrick gets the gig. But not for long. After a couple of losses, his extreme competitiveness comes out. The players even dub him the "Grinch who stole soccer." So Patrick gets the boot -- er, cleat -- and Audie steps in to coach the team. They don't do any better, but they don't care. They're having fun.
Needless to say, all the joie de sport and Jolly losing really gets to Patrick. It brings back the terrible memories of when he lost the big high school football game and ruined his coach's perfect record.
Meanwhile, Jordan asks David for help with his music. Let's just say he gets some tough love in return. David explains that music is "the book of your life," so he takes Jordan to some of the seedier parts of town to up his experience quotient. Suddenly, Jordan stops writing about his coffee getting cold and starts writing about losing all his money in a card game. (don't ask.) A songwriter is born.
Back home, Ruby surprises Patrick with a way to get closure on his past. she video-conferences his old coach... but instead of a heartfelt reunion, Patrick gets another angry earful about how he lost the big game. No matter. Patrick suddenly realizes that he doesn't want to be like the coach, holding onto a game that ended a lifetime ago.
Now that's a winning attitude.
