Gary Busey Wants to Aid Others Identify Hearing Disabilities
Celebrity

Actor Gary Busey is planning to put his improved hearing to good use by helping others who may be suffering from deafness as a result of a traumatic brain injury.

AceShowbiz - The "Lethal Weapon" star, Gary Busey had no idea he was partially deaf until Oscar-winner Marlee Matlin, his fellow contestant on hit U.S. TV show "The Celebrity Apprentice", recognised his tendency to shout for no reason.

The deaf actress recommended Gary Busey see a specialist and he was subsequently fitted with a hearing aid.

The eccentric actor's hearing is now crystal clear and he is convinced the problem stems from brain surgery he underwent in 1988.

And Busey wants to aid others the way Matlin has helped him.

He tells WENN, "Marlee Matlin said to me that it's not right to stop somebody from hearing so she sent me to Dr. Bill Austin, Starkey hearing aid in Minnesota and he outfitted me in one hour with this hearing aid."

"I had brain surgery after my motorcycle accident in '88 when I split my skull and it knocked a hole in my ear canal, making it smaller so Dr. Austin gave me these (hearing aids)... and now all five of my senses are working... Now I can help people with traumatic brain injury because I was the advocate voice that created the Traumatic Brain Injury Act that President Clinton signed in 1997. I'm very proud of that."
