FKA Twigs countersues sister duo Twigs in escalating trademark battle over the name, rejecting a $15K coexistence offer.

AceShowbiz - FKA Twigs, the Grammy-winning artist born Tahliah Barnett, is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with the sister duo known as the Twigs, twin sisters Laura Good and Linda Good. This countersuit comes less than two months after FKA Twigs initially filed a lawsuit against the band over trademark use of the name “Twigs.”
In March 2026, FKA Twigs took legal action against the Good sisters, accusing them of sending multiple cease-and-desist letters regarding the trademark associated with her stage name. According to the complaint, Barnett stated that the sisters have been aware of her use of the name since 2013. She reportedly offered the band $15,000 in an effort to allow both musical acts to coexist without requiring her to purchase rights to the name. The Good sisters, however, declined this offer and refused to consent to a coexistence agreement.
The original lawsuit also alleges that in May 2024, the Twigs attempted to use “barred and unmeritorious trademark claims” as leverage by sending cease-and-desist letters to Barnett. These letters threatened litigation, including injunctions meant to block FKA Twigs from using her stage name, actions Barnett’s complaint describes as attempts to disrupt her uninterrupted use of the trademark for over a decade for the sisters’ own benefit.
In response, on May 11, 2026, the Good sisters filed their own legal claim alleging trademark infringement. Their countersuit claims that after Barnett released her album Magdalene in 2019, she began dropping the “FKA” portion during some public appearances. The sisters assert that Barnett intentionally leveraged her celebrity status and media influence to increase public association of her musical work with the name “Twigs,” thereby damaging the goodwill that they have built under that name within the same music channels.
The band is seeking a court injunction to prevent Barnett from using the “FKA Twigs” stage name and is pursuing unspecified financial damages related to trademark infringement and unfair competition. Both parties’ representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment.
This ongoing legal battle highlights complex issues over trademark rights and the use of similar stage names in the music industry, with both sides asserting claims of infringement and harm to their respective brands.
