AceShowbiz - Bonnie Tyler, the iconic singer known for the classic hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," is currently recovering after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal.
A statement posted on her official website on Wednesday, May 6, confirmed the news: "We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery." The message added that the operation was successful and that she is now recuperating. It acknowledged the concern of her family, friends, and fans, expressing gratitude for their well wishes towards her full and swift recovery.
Earlier this year, in March, Tyler shared with Hello! magazine that she was in good health and enjoying performing live. "I'm fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I'm really enjoying doing the shows," she said. She also mentioned that her only issue at the time was knee pain. Her scheduled tour dates across continental Europe are set to begin on May 22 and will continue intermittently through December.
When contacted for further comment, Tyler's manager referred inquiries back to the original hospital statement. Despite the unexpected surgery, the Welsh singer has remained musically active. She released two singles earlier this year, titled "One Love" and "One World One Home," following her successful collaboration with David Guetta and Hypaton on the song "Together."
This year marks a significant milestone in Tyler's career, celebrating the 50th anniversary of her recording debut. Her first single, "My! My! Honeycomb," was released in 1976, and although it did not chart, she quickly rose to fame with the 1977 hit "It's a Heartache," which reached Number Four in the U.K. and Number Three in the U.S.
Fans and followers of Bonnie Tyler are wishing her a speedy recovery as she recovers in Portugal and prepares to resume her tour dates later this year.
