AceShowbiz - Actor Jason Ritter previously appeared uncredited as a clicker on The Last of Us during the time his wife, Melanie Lynskey, was part of the show’s cast. However, the dynamics have shifted significantly for the upcoming season. With Lynskey's character now deceased, Ritter has been elevated to a prominent role, portraying a living character.
According to Deadline, both Ritter and Patrick Wilson have been officially added to the cast for The Last of Us season three. Ritter will take on the role of Hanley, a soldier affiliated with the Washington Liberation Front. Meanwhile, Wilson will portray Jerry, the late father of Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever. This connection is crucial, as Abby’s motivation for killing Joel (Pedro Pascal) in season two was to avenge Jerry’s death, setting the stage for the narrative’s ongoing revenge cycle.
The new season will focus on Ellie, portrayed by Bella Ramsey, as she confronts the consequences of this cycle of vengeance and decides whether to perpetuate it further. In addition to Ritter and Wilson’s promotions, actors Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord are also joining the regular cast, indicating a broadening of the story’s scope.
The Last of Us season three has been anticipated for some time and may be the series’ final chapter. Ramsey shared in May 2025, "I haven't seen any scripts, but yes, I do expect that. I think that I'm going to be there, but not a whole bunch. We've had conversations about that. I sort of have a rough idea of what it's going to be, but I can't tell you." This hints at a shift in focus within the story, with some familiar faces taking on new or expanded roles.
Fans of the critically acclaimed HBO series can look forward to the evolving narrative in season three, as new characters join the fray and the complex themes of survival and retribution continue to unfold.
