AceShowbiz - Charli XCX is preparing to unveil her eighth studio album, marking a significant shift from her previous dance-oriented music toward a more rock-centric sound. This transition was revealed in a recent British Vogue cover story, where the British pop artist described the project as a “rock reinvention.”
According to Charli XCX, the new album represents a creative departure that she finds exciting. “For me, it’s fun to flip the form,” she said, acknowledging that the change might unsettle some fans but emphasizing that she welcomes the challenge.
She further explained that sticking to the dance music formula would have made the album feel difficult and emotionally draining. “If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,” she noted. Instead, the team experimented with their interpretation of analogue sound, aiming to avoid anything that felt overly masculine, which was an important consideration during production.
Charli XCX expressed a desire to explore a sound that is more introspective and quieter than her previous work. “It made me crave something opposite. Getting back to something more internal is really nice,” she said, highlighting the personal and reflective tone of the new material.
While specific details about the album remain scarce, British Vogue confirmed that it is currently a work in progress and will be released through Atlantic Records. The record is being produced in collaboration with her longtime partners A.G. Cook and Finn Keane, also known as Easyfun.
In conjunction with the forthcoming release, Charli XCX has revamped her social media presence, removing all previous content associated with the color chartreuse green. Her online profiles now feature only a handful of posts, a link to a newly created Instagram account, and a charcoal gray profile photo, signaling a fresh start aligned with her new artistic direction.
