AceShowbiz - O'Shea Jackson Jr. recently took to social media to strongly defend his father, rapper and actor Ice Cube, after a fan claimed that his career peaked in the 1990s. The fan questioned why the legendary artist hadn’t appeared in a “good movie since the ’90s,” dismissing his more recent work as “straight garbage.”
In response, Jackson Jr. passionately refuted this notion on X, listing several notable films and franchises his father has been involved in since the early 2000s. He emphasized that Ice Cube has starred in major movies such as the Jump Street series, All About the Benjamins, Fist Fight, Lottery Ticket, and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, highlighting the ongoing success and diversity of his dad’s filmography.
He continued by naming multiple franchises that Ice Cube has been a part of over the years, including the Barbershop trilogy, both Jump Street movies, Ride Along, and the Are We Done Yet films and television show, which Ice Cube also created and executive produced. Jackson Jr. made a point to remind fans that his father’s career is far from over, noting, “He’s been in FOUR franchises since the 2000s began.”
Adding to the list, he mentioned that Ice Cube recently added two more installments to the Friday series, bringing the total to five films in that franchise. Jackson Jr. also defended the latest Friday movie, which was filmed during the pandemic with limited cast and crew and released five years later, urging fans not to let that project diminish their respect for his dad’s body of work.
This defense came amidst criticism of Ice Cube’s 2026 film War of the Worlds, which was poorly received by critics and named the worst film of the year at the Razzie Awards. The movie took home five Razzie trophies, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Director, and Worst Remake. Despite this, Jackson Jr. refused to let the negative reviews define his father’s career, telling critics to “check thyself before you wreck thyself.”
Earlier the same day, Jackson Jr. expressed enthusiasm about reports that Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are in talks to reunite for Ride Along 3. He joked on X that if he were cast in the film, it would be “100 percent Nepotism.”
O'Shea Jackson Jr. is well known for portraying his father in the 2015 biographical film Straight Outta Compton, and he has also built a successful acting career of his own. His film credits include Ingrid Goes West, Den of Thieves, Long Shot, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Just Mercy, and Cocaine Bear. Additionally, he appeared in three episodes of the 2022 series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
As the oldest son of Ice Cube and Kimberly Woodruff, Jackson Jr. has become a prominent figure in Hollywood, and he clearly stands firmly in support of his father’s ongoing influence and contributions to both music and film.
