AceShowbiz - Niall Horan shared a memorable experience from his time in One Direction involving a high-profile audience at their concerts.
During an appearance on The Capital Evening Show With Jimmy Hill on March 31, Horan spoke about how former First Lady Michelle Obama attended the band's shows in Washington, D.C., bringing along her daughters Malia and Sasha. "You know I love Michelle Obama," he said. "I've met her a couple of times. Back in the 1D days she would bring the girls to our show in D.C."
Horan described the heavy security presence that accompanied the Obamas, explaining, "It was a whole outfit. They had Secret Service there, and they were all over the arena." He recalled looking out from the stage and seeing the Secret Service agents actively monitoring the venue.
Despite the intense security, Horan said Michelle Obama was very approachable, calling her "lovely and obviously very smart and funny." The presence of the Obama family allowed their daughters to enjoy the concerts just like any other teen fans, cheering for their favorite band.
One Direction performed in Washington, D.C., during their Take Me Home Tour in 2013 and again on the Where We Are Tour in 2014, the times when the Obamas attended. Since the band's breakup in 2016, all five members have pursued solo careers.
Sadly, Liam Payne passed away in 2024, but Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik continue to release or plan new music this year. Horan's latest album, Dinner Party, is scheduled for release on June 5.
The album is inspired by Horan's long-term relationship with girlfriend Amelia Woolley, who first met him at a dinner party, the event that gave the album its title. He explained in a March interview with Capital Breakfast that the dinner party marked much more than just a casual gathering.
"I realized that that dinner party became a bigger thing than just sitting around, getting drunk and having a bit of food," Horan said. "It's become the next six years of my life and hopefully the rest of it. So, yeah, it allowed me to then go and write songs that were about all of the moments of this said relationship."
This glimpse into Horan's experience touring with One Direction highlights both the surreal nature of performing for such prominent figures and the personal moments that continue to inspire his music today.
