From label battles to BRIT history: Discover RAYE's journey to independence, healing through music, and record-breaking success.
- March 27, 2026
AceShowbiz - RAYE deeply understands the healing power of music and hope, a theme central to her latest work.
The London-born artist, known for her time at the BRIT School and as a BBC Music Sound award nominee, first gained attention as a promising talent. However, her journey was not without challenges. After signing with Polydor, she faced creative restrictions that culminated in a 2021 tweet revealing that the label was blocking her from releasing an album.
Determined to regain control, RAYE left the major label and embraced independence by partnering with Human Re Sources, a distribution and artist services company. This move allowed her to steer her career without compromise.
Her breakthrough came in January 2023 when she achieved her first U.K. No. 1 single with "Escapism," featuring 070 Shake. The success was followed by a historic moment in March 2024, as RAYE set a new BRIT Awards record by winning six trophies in one night, including album and artist of the year—surpassing previous records held by Harry Styles, Adele, and Blur.
Continuing her momentum, in January 2026, she scored a second U.K. No. 1 with "Where Is My Husband?" The track also performed well internationally, peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her highest chart position in the U.S. to date.
Now, RAYE launches the next chapter of her career with her sophomore album, This Music May Contain Hope, following up on her acclaimed My 21st Century Blues, which reached No. 2 on the U.K. charts three years ago.
The album features 17 tracks, including "Where Is My Husband," which she showcased at the 2026 HeartRadio Music Awards. It is structured into four chapters that trace a sonic journey from darkness into light, reflecting a message of healing and optimism.
Collaborators on the album are notable and diverse: Hans Zimmer, Al Green, the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tom Richards, Flames Collective Choir, and RAYE's sisters Amma and Absolutely. Production support comes from Mike Sabath, Tom Richards, Chris Hill, Pete Clements, Jordan Riley, and Punctual.
Explaining her motivation, RAYE says, "Music is medicine, I've always said that. I guess I'm in the process of making medicine for myself that I can share with the world. I want us all to say to ourselves that it's going to be all right, and I'm going to have faith in the seeds that I've planted beneath the snow. I wanted to create something that is a hug, bed or soft place for that person who needs it."
To promote the album, RAYE will embark on a sold-out North American tour starting March 31 at Channel 24 in Sacramento, CA. She will follow this with a 51-date tour across the U.K. and Europe. Additional homecoming shows are scheduled for May, along with appearances at British festivals in August.
Moreover, RAYE will join Bruno Mars as a special guest on The Romantic Tour in North America this summer, performing at 26 stadium dates.
