AceShowbiz - Paramount Pictures has announced that acclaimed filmmaker James Wan will helm the remake of the popular South Korean film The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. The original movie, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, starred Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok), who is set to return for this new adaptation.
The original story follows an unlikely alliance between a crime boss and a police officer as they join forces to track down a serial killer terrorizing their city. For the upcoming version, the screenplay will be written by Shay Hatten, while Brian Helgeland, who created the initial draft, will serve as an executive producer.
James Wan and Michael Clear are producing under the Atomic Monster banner. Don Lee is also involved as a producer via Big Punch Global, alongside Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller representing Balboa Productions. Additional producers include Chris Lee from B&C Group and Jang Won-seok, CEO of BA Entertainment.
Wan recently directed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the 2018 hit that remains the highest-grossing film worldwide in the DC Studios franchise. This new project marks another high-profile collaboration for Wan, combining his directorial vision with a proven international narrative.
