AceShowbiz - The acclaimed industrial band Nine Inch Nails has delivered an unexpected gift to fans with the surprise release of Tron Ares: Divergence, a companion album to their previously launched Tron: Ares soundtrack. The 20-track album was unveiled on Friday, February 27, offering new and remixed material linked to the film's score.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the creative forces behind Nine Inch Nails, include a diverse range of remixes from notable electronic artists such as Meat Beat Manifesto's Jack Dangers, their tour collaborator Boys Noize, Pixel Grip, and Mark Pritchard. One standout remix is by Arca, who reimagined the track "As Alive As You Need Me to Be." The original version of this song was also released as a surprise in July, coinciding with the announcement of the soundtrack's release date.
This dance-ready track notably earned the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song on February 1. Furthermore, the original Tron: Ares soundtrack achieved significant commercial success, peaking at number five on the Billboard 200 chart dated October 4, 2025.
Boys Noize, who will join Nine Inch Nails on stage as part of the collaborative act Nine Inch Noize at the upcoming Coachella festival in April, contributed remixes for three songs on the new album: "A Question of Trust," "Ghost in the Machine," and "What Have You Done?"
Fans had anticipated new music when Nine Inch Nails posted an intriguing image on their Instagram account on Thursday, February 26. The photo featured a green and black cyber grid intertwined with Polaroid snapshots from the band's ongoing Peel It Back tour, subtly revealing the cover art for Tron Ares: Divergence.
The Peel It Back tour began on June 15, 2025, in Dublin and concluded its first leg with two shows at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles in September. The second leg started on February 5 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, a city with personal significance to Trent Reznor as it was where he lived while creating the album The Fragile, which topped the Billboard 200 upon its release in 1999. The tour is expected to wrap up on March 16 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California.
