The 'Drew Barrymore Show' host delved into the personal impact of her divorce from former husband Will Kopelman and the subsequent co-parenting experience.

AceShowbiz - Drew Barrymore opens up about the rollercoaster journey of raising her daughters without a traditional family structure. On a revealing episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show", the 50-year-old star candidly discussed the complexities and emotional toll of a single parent

During a conversation with Moon Zappa, daughter of Frank Zappa, the host said, "Everything to me was very devastating and took me a long time to recover from if it wasn't in the traditional family dynamic that I swore I would do for my family because I did not grow up that way."

The Emmy-nominated actress reflected on her own difficult childhood, characterized by a lack of parental involvement, which fueled her determination to provide a different upbringing for her children.

Barrymore poignantly recalled her feelings of jealousy towards her peers whose parents were readily available. This longing for parental presence and support became a cornerstone of her parenting philosophy.

"All the kids at school would go into the office to call their parents when they were sick and I could never get a hold of anybody," she said. "I was so jealous of those kids who would call and be like, 'Mom, Dad, come pick me up.' I just would sit there and be like, 'What's that like?' "

Barrymore shares Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with Kopelman. "If you don't grow up in a perfect way with a perfect family, you fear the blueprint and you go, I want to do things differently," she said. "I felt unconfident, like this was the stakes of my life, and it took a few years, honestly, to have that confidence."
