AceShowbiz - Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is seriously contemplating pursuing legal action against her ex-husband, Kanye West, now known as Ye, to change the joint legal custody of their four children: North, 11, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 5. This development comes after Ye released his latest song that featured their eldest child, North West, without Kardashian's consent.
Kanye has dropped songs featuring North West in the past, but this one reportedly struck a nerve with Kim because the track featured incarcerated music mogul P. Diddy.
The former couple, who wed in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2022, had initially agreed on joint physical and legal custody of their children. While "physical custody is reportedly not an issue" despite the rapper rarely seeing the kids due to his prolonged stay overseas, the decision-making remains contentious.
The former couple's divorce agreement mandates a private hearing with a judge if conflicts arise regarding their children.
"The Kardashians" star requested an emergency hearing with their lawyers, a mediator, and a judge after discovering Kanye's intention to release a song featuring North and embattled rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs.
Despite initially agreeing not to release the track, titled "Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine," Ye went ahead and posted the song on X (formerly Twitter) a day later, asserting that "men make the final decision."
This breach of agreement escalated tensions between the former spouses, evidenced in their heated text exchange he posted and then deleted on social media.
In the texts, Kardashian emphasized that she had trademarked their children's names "when they were born" to prevent others from profiting off them. She also purportedly reminded Ye that he had agreed to these terms.
Ye's reaction to Kardashian's cease-and-desist letter and recent actions spurred him into a lengthy online rant, where he accused the "Kardashian mob" of restricting his parenting abilities, comparing their current custody arrangement to "visitation" in "jail." Ye even threatened to go to "war" over the legal dispute.
Sources close to Kardashian revealed that her primary concern is "the well-being and safety of her children and to protect them from being around Kanye's controversial behavior." The Skims founder is determined to ensure that her children grow up in a healthy and stable environment, despite the ongoing drama with their father.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether Kardashian will proceed with her legal battle to alter the custody agreement or if an amicable resolution can be reached.
