AceShowbiz - Chappell Roan, known for her hit single "Good Luck, Babe!" and her charming pop sound, is set to debut her playful country single "The Giver". Despite dabbling in the country genre, she has reassured her fans that she's not leaving pop music behind.
"I really just did it for fun," Roan emphasized in her interview on the March 14 episode of Today's "Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen" on Apple Music. "I'm not switching genres or anything."
"Many people have asked if this means I'm making a country album??? My answer is... hmm right now I'm just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl," she explained on Instagram.
Roan traces her love for country music back to her roots in southwest Missouri. "I grew up on Christian and country, and then found Alejandro by Lady Gaga and I was like, 'I think I like this, too.' So, I have kept country in my heart," she explained.
The singer finds it nostalgic to drive in West Hollywood while playing country classics like Jason Aldean or Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee."
The new single, co-written with Dan Nigro, promises a fun, campy vibe that's sure to resonate with her fans. The artist's inspiration for "The Giver" comes from Big & Rich's lively 2004 track "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)."
"I was like, 'I want to feel that way on stage. I want to feel that,' " Roan shared. "Because that's how I write. I'm like, 'How do I want to walk around on stage and sing?' And I was like, 'I want to write that song, but Chappell's version.' "
Roan's versatile approach to music has already earned her significant recognition, including a Grammy for Best New Artist. She also used her acceptance speech to advocate for better support for developing artists, urging labels to offer "a livable wage and healthcare."
In the meantime, fans can look forward to more pop hits in the future while enjoying the playful side of Roan's musical journey with "The Giver." Whether she's delivering pop anthems or experimenting with country, one thing is for sure: Chappell Roan knows how to keep her audience entertained and eager for more.
