AceShowbiz - In a revealing conversation on Monica Lewinsky's "Reclaiming" podcast, Olivia Munn shared some eye-opening details about a disturbing incident that occurred on an undefined movie set.
Reflecting on her childhood as a relentless battlefield of bullying, Munn explained how these early experiences shaped her fierce commitment to justice and her black-and-white view of the world.
"I became really feisty" and started valuing "justice" above all else, Munn said, which carried over into her adulthood and career.
One significant episode she detailed involved experiencing poor treatment on a movie set so traumatic that she had to file complaints with the studio. "There were other things that happened on this movie set personally to me that was really not OK," Munn recounted.
The studio attempted to make amends by offering Munn a seven-figure payout, albeit conditional upon her signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). "I just felt that it was so wrong," she expressed during the podcast.
The situation was especially contentious as it occurred around the beginning of the #MeToo and Time's Up movements. Munn was adamant about not letting her voice be undermined by an NDA, despite the considerable monetary offer.
Concerned about her integrity and the validity of her voice, Munn declined the offer after an emotional meeting with the lawyers. "I said to him, 'I know this is a lot of money to you but it is not a lot of money to me to lose my voice,' " she emphasized.
The decision, albeit made in a fit of anger, left her feeling immensely proud of herself. Reflecting on the incident, she noted the importance of learning to channel her anger into constructive decisions, spelling out a lesson in resilience and courage.
She didn't specify what happened, but Olivia Munn once opened up about an unpleasant experience within the industry.
In her 2010 book, "Suck It, Wonder Woman!: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek," she accused director Brett Ratner of inappropriate behaviour on set in 2004. In 2018, she got a scene involving convict Steven Wilder Striegel cut from the movie "Predator."
Munn's persistent stand against misconduct in Hollywood portrays her dedication to justice and her fierce refusal to stay silent in the face of adversity.
