Serena Williams sets the record straight on her surprise dance during Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, dismissing any notions of pettiness and reinforcing her focus on larger issues.

AceShowbiz - Serena Williams has shut down rumors that she appeared in Kendrick Lamar's 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show for "petty" reasons. The tennis ace took to social media to shut down any speculation about her intentions.

"That there my baby daddy and husband," she referred to Alexis Ohanian as she began by expressing her gratitude for having a supportive partner. "Always got my back. I Love you 🥰."

"Gosh I'm so late to the game (I've been sick) & busy investing in billion dollar companies and running @WYNbeauty," she explained her initial silence amid the buzzing criticisms on the internet.

"… def not dancing to be petty lol. I think I proved 23 times over (not counting 4 gold medals) that I simply don't have time for petty. All love and respect always nothing negative here. 🤗," she concluded.

Williams' husband has praised her surprise cameo at the halftime show, calling it a "pretty fantastic" appearance. He said history repeated again as he reminded everyone of the harsh criticisms she faced over a decade ago for celebrating her win with a similar dance.

"Some of y'all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows.... This is bigger than the music," he wrote.

While many believed that Williams' cameo was a jab at her rumored ex-boyfriend, Drake, especially given Lamar's ongoing feud with the Canadian rapper, she shut down this theory, explaining that her cameo was about legacy, not personal history.

"When [Lamar] and team called and was like 'We've been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your Crip Walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal,' " she recalled.

"I'm like, Super Bowl? Are you serious? When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a Super Bowl? (Never) let's do it! I knew my winning dance after the Olympics would pay off one day. End of story."
