'The View' co-host Joy Behar shares how a harrowing medical emergency in the late '70s set her on a journey of self-discovery and transformation of her life and career.

AceShowbiz - Joy Behar, 82, recently shared a deeply personal and transformative experience on ABC's "The View". The veteran comedian and talk show host recounted surviving an ectopic pregnancy in 1979, a life-threatening emergency that she says forced her to dramatically rethink her trajectory.

In a conversation about the new Hulu comedy series "The Best Heart Attack of My Life", Behar brought up her own harrowing ordeal.

"I had one on Inauguration Day. And one time I fell off a chair. That's another one," said Behar, drawing some humor from her infamous 2022 tumble on live television. She then delved into her most significant brush with death, confessing, "Another time I really actually did die.}

Asked for more details by co-host Sunny Hostin, Behar lightheartedly quipped about the famed "tunnel and white light" phenomenon often associated with near-death experiences, saying, "No. I went through a tunnel though - maybe I was just in Jersey, I don't know! It's possible."

She proceeded to elaborate on the serious nature of her health scare. According to Behar, she had suffered an ectopic pregnancy. This condition, according to the Mayo Clinic, arises when a fertilized egg implants itself outside the main cavity of the uterus, leading to severe, often life-threatening complications if left untreated.

Behar explained how the medical emergency marked a turning point, "After that happened I let my hair go curly, because I was straightening my hair out, I got a divorce, I got fired from my job at Good Morning America, and I completely changed my life and that's why I'm here today."

These radical changes, she feels, set her on the path to where she stands now, both personally and professionally.

Behar, who doesn't believe in an afterlife, sees this life-altering event not as a spiritual encounter but a jolt that redirected her course. Her perspective is indicative of her grounded approach, "It's like before you were born, did you know anything? No. It's the same thing after you die. I believe that."
