AceShowbiz - Actor Gerard Butler, best known for his role in "300," faced significant physical challenges while filming his latest movie, "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera." In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 55-year-old actor revealed that he filmed the intense action drama while suffering from a freshly torn ACL.
"This was a weird time for me at the beginning of this movie because I'd been through a pretty intense surgery, and then I tore my ACL fully about a month later and then started this movie," Butler said.
"So I was not in the best shape, and it was a pretty physical movie, and I didn't have a chance to get the surgery on my ACL, so I made this movie with a freshly torn ACL, and it was pretty rough."
The upcoming movie, directed and written by Christian Gudegast, sees Butler reprising his role as Nicholas "Big Nick" O'Brien, who is on a mission to chase down Donnie Wilson, played by O'Shea Jackson Jr., through Europe to stop a diamond heist. The film is set to be released in theaters on January 10.
Filming "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" was particularly challenging for Butler due to his injured knee, but this isn't the first time the actor has faced physical hardships during his career. In January 2023, Butler recalled on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" how he accidentally burned his eyes, nose, and throat with phosphoric acid while shooting the movie "Plane."
Recalling the incident, Butler said, "Every time I bring my hands out, they're covered in blood and green fluid, right? And I'm like, 'I don't know what this green fluid is.' It's burning my face - and I mean burning… It turns out that this is essentially phosphoric acid."
Butler's tenacity is having a significant impact on his fans and young audiences, showcasing resilience and dedication in the face of severe adversities. "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" is also supported by Evin Ahmad, Salvatore Esposito, Meadow Williams, and Michael Bisping, to name a few.
Despite the severe physical toll, Butler's commitment to his role and the production of the movie is evident. His drive to push through the pain serves as an inspiration, emphasizing the lengths actors go to bring characters to life. Don't miss "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" in theaters to witness Butler's perseverance firsthand.
