Billy Bob Thornton explains his reasons for rejecting offers to star in two major Hollywood movie franchises, revealing his preference for unconventional and unpredictable characters.

AceShowbiz - Billy Bob Thornton has opened up that he turned down two iconic villain roles in major Hollywood franchises: the Green Goblin in "Spider-Man" and Owen Davian in "Mission: Impossible III."

In an interview with The Playlist's "Bingeworthy" podcast, Thornton explained that he declined the "Spider-Man" role due to the extensive makeup required. "With the Green Goblin, I didn't feel like getting up at 4 a.m. for five or six hours of makeup," he said.

Regarding the "Mission: Impossible" role, Thornton expressed his reluctance to be typecast as a villain. "I didn't want to be the guy trying to kill Tom Cruise," he said. "If you're the bad guy in a big movie like that, audiences remember it forever."

Ultimately, the role of the Green Goblin went to Willem Dafoe, who reprised it in the recent "Spider-Man: No Way Home" film alongside Tobey Maguire. The role of Owen Davian was played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Thornton's decision to reject the roles aligns with his preference for "less predictable" characters. He has showcased his versatility in a wide range of films, including "Sling Blade," "Saturday Night Live," and "The Man Who Wasn't There."

Thornton's comments highlight the complex considerations actors make when choosing roles, balancing personal preferences, career trajectory, and the lasting impact of their work.
