AceShowbiz - For years, Taron Egerton harbored a deep-seated nervousness about airline travel, an anxiety fueled by a harrowing experience during a plane landing in Italy. As recounted on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," the incident left Egerton with "recurring nightmares" of crash scenarios every time he tried to catch some inflight shut-eye. This memory resurfaced as the actor promoted his latest film, "Carry-On", a holiday thriller where he takes on the role of a TSA agent.
Discussing the event that triggered his fears, Egerton detailed how, just as the plane was about to touch the runway, it abruptly swooped upward again. "The one that really messed me up was about five, six years ago. I was landing in Italy and the airplane, just as it was touching the runway, did a big dipper," he shared.
The actor explained that this near-landing then upward ascent was likely due to an overshot runway or perhaps even a training exercise. Regardless, the incident left an indelible mark.
His brain's creative tendencies made the nightmares particularly vivid and torturous. "My weird, creative way of thinking shot [the nightmares] like a movie, so I'd see it from all different angles," Egerton said. "It was awful, really awful."

Adding another layer to his airline aversion, Egerton also recalled a childhood memory of being separated from his mother during a flight, a traumatic event filled with screams.
Despite his personal anxieties about flying, Egerton takes to the air once again in "Carry-On", directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, known for works like "Black Adam" and "Jungle Cruise". In this Netflix thriller, Egerton stars as Ethan, a TSA agent who finds himself blackmailed by an unknown assailant, played by Jason Bateman. Ethan must allow a suspicious package onto a flight, a decision that jeopardizes the lives of hundreds on Christmas Eve.
Egerton described his character as someone who embodies "a hero in waiting," rising to protect others, including his girlfriend, portrayed by Sofia Carson. He praised his character's hidden strengths, noting, "He's pretty noble and selfless. He has all the qualities of an archetypal hero underneath the lack of direction."
"Carry-On" is set to touch down on Netflix on December 13, promising a nail-biting adventure just in time for the holidays.
