AceShowbiz - On Sunday, November 17, Daniel Craig attended the Governors Awards while introducing producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. The actress teased the next James Bond during the event.
"Let's just get something out of the way," he said. "If you came here this evening to find out who the next James Bond is, don't look at me, but he might be in the room. I'm just joking. Maybe I'm not."
Craig previously stated he has no preference for who plays the next Bond, as the producers continue to work on casting the iconic spy. Broccoli and Wilson acknowledged that casting a new Bond is a "big decision" that will bring excitement and a new direction to the franchise. While emphasizing that the forthcoming Bond will be a man, likely in his 30s, they hinted that the new Bond might not necessarily be white.
The awards ceremony also highlighted the importance of Broccoli's role as only the second woman to receive the prestigious Thalberg Award. Her father, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, previously won the same award in 1982.
Actor Colman Domingo kicked off the night by jokingly pitching himself to the producers. "I know that there's a list of phenomenal, handsome, athletic, suave and debonair actors vying to be the next James Bond," said Domingo. "Now if you're thinking of me, I don't know what to tell you: Bond or Bond villain? You decide. I will leave my headshots on your table."
The Governors Awards also honored the late Quincy Jones, casting director Juliet Taylor, and filmmaker Richard Curtis, recognizing their contributions to the film industry.
