AceShowbiz - Chris Wallace, a 77-year-old veteran broadcaster, has announced his departure from CNN after three years. Wallace, who hosted "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace?" and anchored "The Chris Wallace Show", revealed his decision in an interview with The Daily Beast.
Wallace explained that he intends to explore streaming or podcasting, as he believes that's where the future lies. "This is the first time in 55 years I've been between jobs," he said. "I am actually excited and liberated by that."
CNN CEO and chairman Mark Thompson praised Wallace's contributions, stating, "Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business."
Prior to joining CNN in 2021, Wallace had a long and distinguished career in broadcast journalism. He began his TV journey as an assistant to Walter Cronkite in 1964 and went on to hold various positions at NBC News, including White House correspondent and anchor of Meet the Press. In 1989, he joined ABC, where he hosted Nightline and Primetime Live.
Wallace's tenure at Fox News spanned nearly two decades, where he moderated presidential debates in 2016 and 2020 between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as well as Trump and Joe Biden, respectively.
Wallace expressed gratitude towards CNN and stated that his departure was not due to any ill will. "I have nothing but positive things to say. CNN has been very good to me," he said.
As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, Wallace remains open-minded about his next ventures. "I‘m waiting to see what comes over the transom. It might be something that I haven’t thought of at all," he remarked.
