Fans hoping to see Deadpool trading quips with Thor or Captain America might have to temper their expectations, at least for now, according to Ryan Reynolds.

AceShowbiz - During an appearance on Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast, Ryan Reynolds addressed the possibility of Wade Wilson, better known as Deadpool, appearing in future Avengers films. When asked about Deadpool joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) roster in either "Avengers: Doomsday" or "Avengers: Secret Wars", Reynolds remarked, "We'll see what happens there," adding, "I'm not even being cagey."
"Deadpool & Wolverine", the recent blockbuster that integrated Deadpool into the MCU, proved to be a financial triumph, grossing an impressive $1.3 billion worldwide. This major success followed a challenging 2023 for Marvel, marked by underwhelming performances from both "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" and the Disney+ series "Secret Invasion".
Despite this success, Marvel Studios has remained tight-lipped about Deadpool's future within the MCU. The existing lineup for 2025-2027 is already packed with major releases such as "Captain America: Brave New World", "Thunderbolts" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps". Meanwhile, untitled MCU films are slated for 2026, 2027, and 2028, leaving room for speculation.
Adding to the fan excitement, "Deadpool & Wolverine" almost featured some unexpected cameos from past Marvel heroes. Ryan Reynolds revealed that they had attempted to include Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider and Ben Affleck's Daredevil. However, budget constraints forced these ideas to be shelved. Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and the film's director Shawn Levy ultimately relied on cameo appearances from existing "Deadpool" characters and notable personalities, maximizing fan satisfaction while keeping expenses in check.
The potential challenge, however, lies in meshing Deadpool's irreverent, R-rated style with the typically more family-friendly tone of "Avengers" films. Deadpool's penchant for breaking the fourth wall and delivering profanity-laden dialogues is a stark contrast to the usual PG-13 rating for the "Avengers". Integrating him without diluting his character or distracting from the main plot would be a delicate balancing act for any director.
Interestingly, Reynolds, Jackman and Levi are rumored to be working on a new non-Marvel film project, though no details have been revealed yet.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting November 12, giving fans another chance to enjoy the Merc with a Mouth's MCU debut while speculations about his future continue to brew.
