The 'Emilia Perez' actress says she 'strongly disagreed with any comments that were made recently' in the wake of the comedian's controversial remark at a Trump rally.

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez is standing by her "people" in the wake of racist joke made at a recent Donald Trump rally. The singer/actress has blasted Tony Hinchcliffe's controversial remark about Puerto Rico.

The former Disney darling gave her two cents on the joke when attending the Netflix co-hosted premiere of Jacques Audiard's new musical at the opening night of the 28th American French Film Festival at the DGA in Hollywood on Tuesday night, October 30. She told Variety she "strongly disagreed with any comments that were made recently. I definitely want to stand by my people."

Gomez, who cast her vote early on the way to the premiere of "Wizards Beyonce Waverly Place" earlier this week, explained she posted a video of her submitting her ballot because "people can sometimes forget that the one vote can change everything."

Following in Gomez's footsteps, her "Emilia Perez" co-star Zoe Saldana said she also cast her vote this week. "I voted today so I'm definitely exercising my responsibility as an American citizen to care for the well-being of my nation, because it's also my son's country and it has to be worthy of my children," she shared.

On Hinchcliffe's "garbage" remark about Puerto Rico, the "Avatar" star, whose mother is Puerto Rican, said, "It's sad that today, 2024, there's just so much poverty in character on so many people that we misname as leaders." She went on reminding, "We have to pick leaders that really represent who we are as human beings."

Echoing the sentiment, SofĂa Gascon said she hoped "people will do things reasonably and think rationally." She added, "We would not want to go back to what we had a few years ago in the world, which I think was not the best it could be. I have hope in human beings and I understand that they are going to choose what is best for their country and for the society in which they live."

Hinchcliffe made the racist joke when speaking at a Trump rally in New York City on Sunday. The comedian described Puerto Rico as a "floating pile of garbage."

His remark has received pushback from a number of celebrity, including Aubrey Plaza who said at the Wall Street Journal Magazine Innovator Awards event on Tuesday night, "I just wanted to very quickly respond to the racist joke that was made at that Trump rally about Puerto Rico, where most of my family is from."

Meanwhile, Trump has distanced himself from Hinchcliffe. "I don't know him, someone put him up there," he said of the comedian. The former U.S. president also told ABC he didn't hear the remark.
