AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez and David Henrie have officially returned to the world of wizardry in the Disney Channel and Disney+ revival series, "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place". The show picks up with an adult Justin (Henrie), who has lost his powers and is enjoying mortal life with his family. Alex (Gomez), now a member of the Wizard Tribunal, arrives at her brother's doorstep seeking his help to train Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a young wizard who is destined to protect the Wizard World from a mysterious threat.

Henrie and Gomez, who have remained close friends since the original series ended in 2012, were thrilled to reunite on screen. "It was awesome," Henrie told Us Weekly. "The word to me is meaningful. It's an absolutely meaningful experience because over the years, Selena and I encountered so many fans who said that our show meant so much to them."

The sequel series, which was developed in collaboration with Gomez and Henrie as executive producers, aims to recapture the "spirit" of the original. "Selena and I both were like, 'We wanna recapture that same spirit, the same themes, the same values, and represent them to a whole new generation,' " Henrie explained.

Billie and Roman, the son of Justin and Giada, embody a similar dynamic to the original characters of Alex and Justin, with Billie's rebellious nature contrasting Roman's more studious personality. "I think it just kind of happened in a way," Brown, who plays Billie, said. "But I also feel like we're like that onscreen and offscreen."

Despite the passage of time, Henrie and Gomez's chemistry was undeniable. "The second 'action' was said, it was like Selena and I hadn't missed a day," Henrie shared. "The chemistry was there, the magic was there, we felt it."

The reunion has also highlighted the enduring friendship between Gomez and Henrie. "It's been wonderful," Henrie told PEOPLE. "Despite all of her massive successes, her and I, our relationship has just withstood all that because I don't know, we're just real with each other."

The first eight episodes of "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place" are now streaming on Disney+, with new episodes airing weekly on Disney Channel.
