AceShowbiz - Longtime "'Grey's Anatomy" regular Jessica Capshaw] broke silence about the controversy surrounding the show's former writer Elizabeth R. Finch. In a new episode of her podcast, "Call It What It Is", she and fellow "Grey's Anatomy" star Camilla Luddington reacted to Finch's fake cancer story.
"It never occurred to me to not believe her," Capshaw said. Finch's fabrications were explored in the Peacock documentary "Anatomy of Lies", which revealed her deception about having cancer. Capshaw and Camilla Luddington, who still appears on "Grey's Anatomy", discussed the documentary on their podcast.
"It's so hard to explain," said Capshaw, who left the show in 2018. "I was surprised that she wasn't who she said she was, but I wasn't surprised that someone could do that."
Luddington shared a personal story that highlighted Finch's strange behavior. She told of a coincidence where Finch showed up at her hotel in Hawaii during her vacation, despite Luddington having never publicly shared her destination.
"It makes you go back and sort of question all the different things," said Luddington. "It's hard because you do watch these documentaries and think you'd know if someone was lying, but then you realize you didn't."
Luddington also discussed Finch's obsession with her character, Jo Wilson. "That's where it gets very creepy," she said.
In a statement following the premiere of "Anatomy of Lies," Finch apologized and acknowledged her lies. "There is no excuse, no justification - nothing will ever make my lies okay," she wrote. "Nothing erases the trauma I caused."
Capshaw emphasized that Finch was "very good at lying" and expressed discomfort that someone like her was involved with the show. Luddington echoed Capshaw's sentiments, saying, "It sucks to be part of the story."
